Seeking Fortune, my Regency Inspirational Romance, is live! This is the story of Valentina, a Gypsy fortune-teller, and James, an English landed gentry. This book received 6000 nominations on Amazon Scout.
Here’s the blurb:
Losing his wife and daughter to influenza shook James Colchester’s faith in God. As another epidemic threatens, he’s torn between what’s best for his fragile son: fleeing to his Welsh homeland, or staying put. In a moment of weakness, the black-haired, green-eyed Gypsy’s delicate touch on his palm quells his fear…and her beauty ignites a warmth he hasn’t felt in years.
Desperate to return to her people, Valentina goes against every lesson her mother taught her to soothe the Englishman into a false sense of security. But as James’s quiet faith sparks a hunger to know it for herself, she realizes she’s made an unforgivable mistake. One that could rob James of his most precious gift—and destroy their chance for lifelong love.

Did you know that Thanksgiving doesn’t exist in Portugal? In fact, many Portuguese have never heard of Thanksgiving.
And, if you were in Portugal in November and wanted to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner, you would soon find that many of the ingredients are non-existent.
Looking for pecans to bake a pecan pie? Nope!
Canned pumpkin for pumpkin pie? Hah!
Cranberries for cranberry sauce? Nope, again. And certainly you won’t find canned cranberry sauce (my fave!) in any of the supermarkets.
However, you might find dried cranberries, although it’s interesting to note that the Portuguese do not have a name for cranberries, although the word “oxicoco” is sometimes used.
The good news is that you will be able to purchase a fresh turkey and roasted chestnuts from the many street vendors. Add a loaf of crusty Portuguese bread, a bottle of Port, and enjoy your Thanksgiving feast!
Here’s a recipe for “Portuguese” cranberry sauce. Note that dried cranberries and port wine are listed in the ingredients.
You will need:
Water to moisten
Approximately 7 cups of dried cranberries
Port wine (I use most of the bottle!)
¾ cup brown sugar
Cinnamon and cloves to taste
Mix all ingredients and simmer on stove.
Do you have a favorite cranberry sauce recipe? Please share below.

“Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer’s gone, and all the roses falling
‘Tis you, ’tis you must go and I must bide.”
My newest sweet romance full-length novel, Oh Danny Boy, is set in Ireland.
Danny Boy is one of the first songs that comes to mind when thinking or singing about Ireland. Ironically, this piece was written by Frederick Weatherly, a lawyer and lyricist, who was an Englishman!
No one knows the true meaning of the lyrics, although some thoughts are:
A girl saying goodbye to her sweetheart.
A young man leaving his homeland and parents behind.
Parents saying goodbye to their son and/or sending their son off to war.
What do you think the words to Oh Danny Boy mean?

USA Today Bestselling Author Shanna Hatfield joins us with her latest release, a sweet World War II romance.
Can forbidden love blossom amid the constraints of war?
The moment the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, life shifted for Miko Nishimura. Desperate to reach the Portland Assembly Center for Japanese-Americans, she’s kicked off the bus miles from town. Every tick of the clock pushes her closer to becoming a fugitive in the land of her birth. Exhausted, she stumbles to her grandparents’ abandoned farm only to find a dying soldier sprawled across the step. Unable to leave him, she forsakes all else to keep him alive.
After crashing his plane in the Battle of the Atlantic, the doctors condemn Captain Rock Laroux to die. Determined to meet his maker beneath a blue sky at his family home, he sneaks out of the hospital. Weary and half out of his mind, he makes it as far as a produce stand he remembers from his youth. Rather than surrender to death, Rock fights a battle of the heart as he falls in love with the beautiful Japanese woman who saves his life.
A poignant, sweet romance, Garden of Her Heart proves love can bloom in unlikely places even under the most challenging circumstances.

Dazed and drained, Miko came to her senses as she reached a road she recognized in the predawn light. It led to a farm owned by one of her grandparents’ neighbors. If she cut through their pasture, it would save her a few miles of walking.
She pushed down the wires of the fence and stepped over it, then reached back for her suitcase. The barbed wire caught her coat. Miko jerked it away from the snag and rolled her eyes in frustration when the fabric ripped.
Sudden anger, at herself for her own arrogance and stupidity as well as the circumstances that left her walking through the woods in the rain at night, fueled her steps. Indignation lent her spent body strength as she hurried across the pasture. A few cows tossed uninterested glances her direction, but none moved her way.
Relieved when she reached the far end of the pasture, she hurried over the fence and along the edge of the trees that circled the vast acres her grandparents owned.
The first fingers of dawn stretched across the drab sky as she stepped from the trees and swallowed back a sob at the sight of her grandparents’ produce stand. As long as Miko could remember, her family had sold produce from the red-painted structure filled with shelves and bins to hold every type of vegetable and fruit the fertile soil would grow.
A hundred yards behind the produce stand, a white picket fence surrounded the cheery yellow bungalow home her grandparents had built in the mid-1920s. With a wide porch and a plethora of flowers surrounding all four sides, the house appeared welcoming. Beyond the yard, a barn and large storage building, along with a collection of outbuildings, alluded to a prosperous farm.
With a prayer to find her family waiting inside for her, she raced up the front steps of the porch and tried the door. The knob rattled but didn’t turn, locked from the inside. Miko set down her suitcase and rushed around to the back door. In her haste, she tripped over the body of a man as he sprawled across the back step.
Unconscious, the uniformed soldier shuddered against the chill in the air, his clothes every bit as wet as hers. At least his jerky tremors assured her he wasn’t dead.
Panicked, she pounded on the door. “It’s Miko! Open the door! Please!” Fist banging against the wood, she called out to her grandparents, willing them to be there.
All remained eerily silent in the house. Single-minded in her efforts to enter the dwelling, Miko stepped over the man and lifted a brick from the border edging the flowerbed. With a spare key in her hand, she jammed it in the lock and pushed the door open, rushing inside.
USA Today Bestselling Author Shanna Hatfield writes character-driven romances with relatable heroes and heroines. Her historical westerns have been described as “reminiscent of the era captured by Bonanza and The Virginian” while her contemporary works have been called “laugh-out-loud funny, and a little heart-pumping sexy without being explicit in any way.”
Convinced everyone deserves a happy ending, this hopeless romantic is out to make it happen, one story at a time. When she isn’t writing or indulging in chocolate (dark and decadent, please), Shanna hangs out with her husband, lovingly known as Captain Cavedweller.

Why am I sharing a Boston Cream Pie Recipe? Because, today we’re celebrating
National Boston Cream Pie Day!
Boston Cream Pie is a chocolate frosted, custard filled cake.
Boston Cream Pie is actually a cake.
In 1996, Massachusetts declared the Boston Cream Pie as their official dessert.
Here’s an easy recipe using pudding, a cake mix, and a simple glaze.
• 1 box yellow cake mix plus eggs, oil and water
• 4 cups milk
• 2 (3.4 ounces each) boxes of French vanilla pudding
• 4 tablespoons butter
• 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
• 2 cups sifted powdered sugar
• 1/4 cup boiling water
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1. Bake the cake as directed in a 13×9 inch pan. Let cool, then poke holes in the cake with the handle of a wooden spoon.
2. Combine one box of pudding mix and 2 cups of milk in a large mixing bowl (preferably one with a spout). Using a handheld electric mixer, beat just until smooth – -about a minute. Pudding should still be thin and runny. Pour the pudding into the holes.
3. Put the cake in the refrigerator and chill for about an hour. Make the second batch of pudding and repeat, fill the holes until the pudding comes to the top, but don’t spread remaining pudding over the top of the cake.
4. Topping: In a large saucepan, melt the butter. Add chocolate and stir over low heat until chocolate is melted. Cool, then beat in sugar, boiling water, and vanilla. Pour over the cold cake. Chill, serve and enjoy!

Who is Noah Webster? I’m assuming most people know that Noah Webster published the dictionary. But did you know that he was seventy when it was published, it took him 27 years to complete, and sold 2500 copies?
To evaluate the etymology of words, Webster learned twenty-six languages, including Old English (Anglo-Saxon), German, Greek, Latin, Italian, Spanish, French, Hebrew, Arabic and Sanskrit. His dictionary contained seventy thousand words, and twelve thousand of them never had appeared in a dictionary before.
He also believed that the English spelling rules were too complex so he introduced American English spellings, “colour” became “color”, “centre” became “center,” and so on. He also added words such as “skunk” and “squash.”
So how can we celebrate?
Learn a new word, or play a dictionary type game. I love Balderdash!
