The Irish have a way with words.

Today I’m sharing some of the (many) Irish Proverbs on love and marriage that I came across when researching my sweet romance full-length novel, set in Ireland,

Oh Danny Boy.

“If you want praise, die. If you want love, marry.”

“It’s easy to halve the potato where there’s love.”

“Honey is sweet, but don’t lick it off a briar.”

“Beauty won’t make the kettle boil.”

“Honey is sweet, but don’t lick it off the briar.”

Do you know an Irish proverb? Please share in the comments below.

One lucky winner will be randomly selected to win a free audiobook of my sweet romance Christmas novella, Candleglow and Mistletoe, because we celebrate the spirit of Christmas all year long!

  1. I like this one. Two shorten the road. It could be used in regard to marriage too.

  2. May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
The rain fall soft upon your fields
    And until we meet again
    May God hold you
In the palm of His hand

  3. May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.

  4. No I don’t so I looked some up and found this proverb.
Whenever it is in any way possible, every boy and girl should choose as his life work some occupation which he should like to do anyhow, even if he did not need the money.
    Thanks

  5. I don’t have one but I looked at many and found this one and love it!
May you live as long as you want,
And never want as long as you live.

  6. God is good, but never dance in a small boat.

There’s no worth to a story without an author.

  7. Your feet will bring you where your heart is.
Life is like a cup of tea, it’s all in how you make it.
