I love holiday baking!
The delicious cookie recipe I’m sharing below is guaranteed to make everyone in your household smile.
The recipe is mentioned in my sweet romance holiday read,
Candleglow and Mistletoe.
Butter Ball Cookies Recipe:
Yield 3-4 dozen cookies
A small number of simple ingredients result in a flavorful, delicious cookie!
1 cup butter (2 sticks) Leave butter on counter at least 2 hours beforehand
(Do not use margarine or light butter.)
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ cup powdered confectioner’s sugar
2 ½ cups flour
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Cream butter and sugar until well blended. Add vanilla, flour, and nuts if desired. Mix thoroughly. Shape into small balls. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes. Watch closely as they will burn if left in too long. Oven times and temperatures may vary.
Note: Dough is very crumbly, but the warmth of your hands will make them easier to shape.
While still warm, roll in a a small amount of additional confectioner’s sugar.

I have a similar recipe to what you posted but they are called Snowballs because they are rolled in powdered sugar. Another Christmas favorite is Cherry Bonbons.
1/2 c butter, softened
3/4 c powdered sugar
2 T milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c flour
1/8 tsp. salt
24 maraschino cherries without stems
Icing:
1 c powdered sugar
1 T butter, melted
2 T cherry juice
Preheat oven to 350° F
In large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add milk and vanilla. Stir until combined. In separate small bowl combine flour and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture, stirring until all combined.
Divide into 24 portions. Shape each portion around a cherry, forming a ball. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 18-20 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.
For icing:
Combine sugar, butter and cherry juice until smooth. Ice cooled cookies. Dust with powdered sugar.
Wow, Debbie. Your recipe looks delicious. The cherries will make it so festive. I will definitely be trying this. Thanks for sharing!
Sounds great
I certainly agree, Crystal!
