Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- Royal icing for decorating
Recipe:
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Add the molasses and spices (cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg) to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until all the ingredients are well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking soda.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour.
- Divide the dough into two portions, shape each into a disk, wrap them in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out one of the chilled dough portions on a floured surface to your desired thickness (typically about 1/4 inch). Use gingerbread-shaped cookie cutters to cut out your cookies.
- Place the cut-out cookies on the prepared baking sheets, leaving a little space between each one.
- Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just slightly golden.
- Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
- Once the cookies are completely cooled, decorate them with royal icing in your desired festive designs.
Enjoy your homemade Gingerbread Cookies, perfect for the holiday season!
